U.S. bill HR 1936 will affect Canadians directly and may be worth keeping an eye on.

I've been talking about that one for awhile. When I first became aware of the bill I urged Canadians to share it with their MPs along with their concerns.

I encouraged US citizens to share it with their state reps and ask them to pass the bill.

At least one US citizen did and this is the response they received:

"Thank you for contacting me about the potential acquisition of new territory for the United States..."

The word "Acquisition" struck me as particularly numbing. DId they not realize they were people up here? Kids? Families? Hospitals? Industries?

And then, I realized that didn't matter to them.

To them... our loves, our lives, our homes, our communities and country, itself -- was the equivalent of a plastic playing piece on a life-sized game of Risk.

More info on that bill here. It appears that some form of progress has been made in moving it slightly forward but, as based on the response from the senator from NC, it may not be passed at all.
